Art I Syllabus
Course Description: Art I is a class for students who are eager to learn to draw and create artworks using a variety of media and techniques. In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of art beginning with the elements and principles of design. The course will begin with black and white design and gradually move on to color.
Goals: Art is a creative process. Students are to create a variety of artworks by manipulating materials in order to express ideas and emotions using a variety of media and techniques.
Preparation for Class: Each student is to have a pencil, eraser, and sharpener on a daily basis. Students are to leave their interactive notebook in class in its designated place. (Supply List Attached) Students must log in to Google Classroom or Schoolology daily if we are meeting virtually and complete the daily assignment in order to be marked present. Google Classroom will be used throughout the school year to post assignments and due date.
Assessment: Students will have daily work assignments and work on projects as well. Projects will be graded using a rubric consisting of the following criteria:
*Fine Arts credit is a requirement for graduation.
Interactive Notebook: Students are required to have an Interactive Notebook. The notebook will consist of a collection of daily activities and sketches created during the course of study. The students will have to keep them neat and organized. Daily and test grades will be taken from the Interactive Notebook. An example of the rubric is as follows:
Cover Page: Cover page needs to be completed within the first week of school (80% needs to be covered with drawings, the theme (Life is Better with Art in it!), and the student’s name.
Author Page: The author page needs to be completed and decorated the first week of school.
Table of Contents: Table of Contents need to be updated every time a new assignment is added to the notebook.
Pages numbered: Pages must be numbered and the correct assignment should be on the correct page number.
All work Glued: All assignments must be glued on. I will not grade notebooks with loose papers.
Work Completed: All assignments must be complete.
* Points will be taken off for every thing listed if it is not complete. The amount of points depends on how many assignments we have done.
Extra Help: Extra help is available upon request. The student is required to schedule the time and date with the teacher at least two days in advance. If we are remote learning, student may ask questions via Google Classroom or Schoolology. I will respond during school hours.
Missed Assignments: It is the student's responsibility to ask for any work missed during an absence. Assignments should be posted on Google Classroom or Schoolology during remote learning. You must check your Google Classroom or Schoolology to see your assignments.
1. Keep your microphone on mute until needed.

3. Following BISD dress code.
4. Keep in mind that live classes are being recorded.

Tardy Policy:
1st Tardy – No restroom privileges for that day. (For the first 40 minutes after you arrive late during block schedule.)
2nd Tardy – Parent Contact
3rd Tardy –Truancy Officer will be notified.
Daily Reminders:
Electronics: Electronic devices are not allowed to be used during the instructional day. Earphones should not be in use or visible. I will be collecting phones at the beginning of the class period and passing them out at the end of the class period. If you do not turn in your phone and you are caught with it, then it will be turned in to the office and your parent/guardian will have to come in to pick it up.
Visual Aids: Students will be required to bring in visual aids for different projects. Visual aids can consist of pictures you take and print, or you can get references from a book or magazine. Students will be notified to bring the visual aids at least a week before we begin the project. Students are allowed to print things at the library. They may go to the library before school, during lunch, or after school. Students will not be sent to the library during class. All students must come prepared with their visual aids the day the project begins. Students get a daily grade for bringing his/her visual aid.
*GT Art students are required to present a project each semester. A rubric will be provided.

- Student uses time and space efficiently: Student completes the project with care from beginning to end of the assignment. Student is prepared to work and involved in clean up procedures. There will be no down time in this class. Students are required to use the class time to the fullest.
- Finished project and preliminary work: Student has fulfilled the assignment requirements by the due date and has left the work in the appropriate place for evaluation.
- Application of the Elements and Principles: Student utilizes the elements and principles of design to create their artwork.
- Student demonstrates understanding of lesson objectives, key terms, and techniques.

- Always write your name using a pen on every assignment.
- If student is absent, it is their responsibility to asked for the missed assignment.
- Restroom time is the time the school designates.
- Always stay on task.
